These defunct asphalt chunks and strewn bric-a-brac, having broken off of once well used buildings and streets, are a product of destruction, where new developments and zoning ideas have taken their place. As they no longer serve their intended purpose, I wanted to rescue and redignify them, calling to attention a present day archeology amidst this rapid rate of tearing down and rebuilding in Seattle. Each sculpture is a bell. The bell is an ancient Japanese symbol for protection—an essential component that makes up home. I have attached clay tags to all eleven sculptures to further distinguish each with an iconic symbol (kikko, sakura, seigaiha, etc), which render meanings important for living, persevering, and manifesting a worthwhile existence.
